C-SPAN's 25-Hour Call-In Marathon, Friday, Oct. 7 & Saturday, Oct. 8

WATCH Fri. 8pm-1am (1980-1984)
WATCH Sat. 1am-6am (1985-1989)
WATCH Sat. 6am-11am (1990-1994)
WATCH Sat. 11am-4pm (1995-2000)
WATCH Sat. 4pm-9pm (2001-2005)

C-SPAN marked 25 years of viewer calls with a live, 25-Hour Call-In Marathon on Friday, October 7, 2005, starting at 8 p.m. ET. The program looks back at key events, include guest interviews and features viewer calls.

C-SPAN launched television's first-ever, regularly scheduled, national viewer call-in program on October 7, 1980, from the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Over 25 years, the network has aired more than a half-million calls, booked 12,000 individual guests and produced more than 46,000 call-in segments. The first-ever caller hailed from Yankton, SD.

To commemorate the anniversary, C-SPAN conducted an essay contest, asking viewers why they watch or participate in the network's call-in programs. The grand prize winner, 17 year old Erika Barger of Ormond Beach, FL, will co-host a segment of the 25-Hour Call-In Marathon from C-SPAN's studios in Washington, D.C. An additional 24 winners will also participate in the program.
