Texas Governor George W. Bush won the 2000 presidential election with 271 electoral votes to Vice President Gore's 266 after a 5-4 U.S. Supreme Court decision on December 12 awarded Florida's 25 electoral votes to Gov. Bush. On December 13, President-elect Bush spoke from the Texas House of Representatives chamber in Austin, Texas.
