AG Holder Testifies on "Fast and Furious"

House Oversight Cmte.

Washington, DC
Thursday, February 2, 2012

The House Oversight Committee continued its look at Operation "Fast and Furious." This ATF-run operation allowed weapons from the U.S. to be smuggled into Mexico so the arms could be traced to Mexican drug cartels.

Attorney General Eric Holder testified at the hearing.

Republicans on the Committee have accused the Justice Department of knowingly submitting false information on the program to Congress. The Attorney General has denied those allegations, accusing the Republicans of political grandstanding. "Fast and Furious" was an operation run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Explosives and Firearms aimed at linking drug cartels to gun smuggling.

During the operation, thousands of weapons were allowed to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, and some later turned up at various crime scenes.
