Afghan Defense and Interior Ministers Discuss U.S. - Afghan Relations

Washington, DC
Thursday, April 12, 2012

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) hosted a discussion with Afghan Defense Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak and Afghan Interior Minister Bismellah Mohammadi.

Both took part in a discussion at the Center for Strategic and International Studies on moving toward a long-term security partnership beyond the 2014 U.S. combat troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. This week it was announced that the two countries have come to an agreement that the U.S. would end the use of night raids.

The Ministers are in Washington, DC this week meeting with administration officials on U.S.-Afghan relations.

Afghan Defense Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak on Tuesday said that a presence of U.S. troops will be needed to “ensure Afghanistan’s stability.”

Robert Lamb of CSIS will moderate.
