Army Secretary John McHugh spoke today at a meeting of the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA), a private, non-profit organization that acts primarily as an advocacy group for the Army.
The Secretary addressed the Army's ongoing involvement in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the recent repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell," as well as the effect of Pentagon budget cuts on military and civilian employees of the Army.
Secretary McHugh was nominated to his current position by President Obama in 2009. He previously served as a member of the U.S. House, representing a district that includes the northernmost areas of upstate New York for about 16 years.
