Astronaut Neil Armstrong Remembered

Washington, DC
Thursday, September 13, 2012

Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, passed away in August. On September 13, Armstrong's family, fellow astronauts, NASA leaders, politicians and others paid tribute with a memorial service at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.

In July 1969, Armstrong commanded Apollo 11 on the first manned lunar landing mission. His first words upon setting foot on the moon were, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Armstrong, 82, passed away August 25 due to complications from cardiovascular surgery earlier that month.
