Blue Cross/Blue Shield CEO Scott Serota spoke about the insurance industry's role in the nation's health care business. The discussion was hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Chamber Foundation, a non-profit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber.
The event took place amidst several legal challenges to parts of the 2010 health care law including the individual mandate, which requires nearly everyone to buy coverage by 2014. The Supreme Court is poised to decide whether to hear one or more of those cases.
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is made up of 39 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies that collectively provide healthcare coverage for nearly 99 million – one-in-three – Americans.
