C-SPAN Radio Specials: Supreme Court Oral Arguments

Washington, DC
Saturday, October 9, 2010

C-SPAN Radio continues its special series on modern landmark Supreme Court cases with Texas v Gregory Lee Johnson. During the 1984 Republican National Convention in Dallas, Gregory Lee Johnson burned an American flag to protest Reagan administration policies. Johnson was tried and convicted under a Texas law outlawing flag desecration. Upon appeal, the Court of Criminal Appeals of Texas reversed the ruling on the grounds that Johnson could not be punished for expressive conduct protected under the first amendment.
