C-SPAN Radio Specials: Supreme Court Oral Arguments

Washington, DC
Saturday, October 23, 2010

John Tinker, et al v. Des Moines Independent Community School District is the fourth installment of C-SPAN Radio's special series of oral arguments from modern landmark cases. John Tinker, his sister Mary Beth, and Christopher Echardt decided, along with their parents, to protest the Vietnam War by wearing black armbands to their schools. Out of fear that the armbands would provoke disturbances, the school principals asked the students to remove them and later suspended them following their refusal.
