C-SPAN Radio's Supreme Court Historic Oral Argument: “Kiobel V. Royal Dutch Petroleum”

On October 1, the U.S. Supreme Court heard the oral argument in “Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum Company” ---a
case about  the reach of a 1789 law---the Alien Tort Statute---that seeks to impose liability in U.S. courts on those who commit human rights violations in foreign countries.   

You’ll hear the oral argument in that case Friday, October 5 at 4 pm ET on C-SPAN Radio. California attorney Paul Hoffman argued for a group of Nigerians who claim violations of the Alien Tort Statute.  He was followed by New York attorney Kathleen Sullivan, arguing against applying the ATS to actions that occur outside the U.S.  And you’ll hear U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli representing the U.S. government as a friend of the court, taking a middle position on the issues.
