C-SPAN Radio’s Nixon Tapes: Calls with J. Edgar Hoover & Richard Helms

Washington, DC
Friday, May 25, 2012

On Saturday May 26, C-SPAN Radio concludes this month’s series of some of President Richard Nixon’s phone calls. In this  program he talks with FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover  about the killings of two NYC policemen  and about groups such as the Black Panthers----and about the Supreme Court decision allowing the publication of the classified Pentagon Papers on Vietnam.

You’ll also hear calls between President Nixon and Director of Central Intelligence Richard Helms, as they talk about Vietnam and about Iran, including the nomination of Mr. Helms as the new U.S. ambassador to that country. And we’ll wrap up our series with part of a call between Richard Nixon and White House Special Counsel and key adviser Charles Colson after the 1972 election, as they consider replacing cabinet members  and other key administration staffers and discuss the performance of the Republican National Party in the wake of some losses in the Congressional races.
