Yesterday it was announced that the C-SPAN Video Library has won a Peabody Award “for its contribution to history, scholarship and public life.” A year ago this month, C-SPAN launched its online Video Library, a searchable, shareable, and free digital archives of all programs that have aired on the C-SPAN Networks since 1987.
"For seventy years the Peabody Award has defined excellence in electronic media," Horace Newcomb, director of the Peabody Awards wrote in a statement.
The Video Library was among 39 Peabody winners, chosen by the Peabody board “as the best in electronic media for the year 2010,” and named in a ceremony in the Peabody Gallery on the University of Georgia campus. The awards will be formally presented May 23 in New York City.
