The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee held the sixth Congressional hearing on the collapse of MF Global.
This hearing focused on the lessons learned and the policy implications.
Commodity Futures Trading Commissioner (CFTC) Jill Sommers testified along with other regulators. The company’s bankruptcy trustee, Louis Freeh, will testify for the first time.
MF Global filed for bankruptcy on October 31st. It’s the eighth largest U.S. bankruptcy in history.
The last hearing on the topic was held in March before the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
Additional witnesses include: James Giddens, trustee of the Securities Investment Protection Act Liquidation of MF Global Inc.; Robert Cook, director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Trading and Markets; Richard Ketchum, president, chairman and CEO of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority; and Terrence Duffy, executive chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
