CPSC Officials Discuss Safety Initiatives

Washington, DC
Thursday, August 2, 2012

The Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) Chairman Inez Tenenbaum testified alongside three CPSC Commissioners before a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee.

The focus of the hearing was to examine the Commission’s implementation of changes Congress enacted one year ago to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008.  The panel also review its handling of other emerging consumer product issues.

Lawmakers asked the Commissioners about the agency's top safety initiatives and programs, including a new database, SaferProducts.gov, which allows consumers to search incident reports.

CPSC Chairman Tenenbaum was joined by Commissioners Robert Adler, Nancy Nord and Anne Northup.  The CPSC has a budget of $107 million to police unsafe products.
