December seventh, 1941. It was a “date which will live in infamy” in the words of President Franklin Roosevelt, after Japanese forces launched a surprise attack against Pearl Harbor, the headquarters of the United States Pacific fleet.The National Park Service commemorated the day with the dedication of a new Visitor Center.
