Committee Considers Ways to Boost Job Growth

Washington, DC
Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Michigan’s Republican Governor Rick Snyder expressed support for the Obama Administration’s efforts to help the auto industry, saying the big three U.S. companies may not have survived otherwise. He was joined at the House Education and Workforce Committee by Connecticut’s Democratic Governor Dannel Malloy, who said as many as 51,000 people in his state would be affected if Congress does not extend unemployment insurance. The two governors were followed by a second panel including Jared Bernstein, former economic adviser to Vice President Biden, and Matthew Mitchell is a Senior Research Fellow at George Mason University’s Mercatus Center. They presented two differing views on how to fix the economy.

Rep. John Kline (R-MN) chaired the hearing.
