Conference Examined Foreign Policy Changes in Rising World Powers

The Elliott School Of International Affairs

The Elliott School Of International Affairs

Washington, DC
Monday, April 25, 2011

The George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs hosted a day-long conference looking at five rising world powers – China, India, Russia, Japan and Iran – and examined the connection between the public and government sectors and changes to foreign policy.

Each panel tackled various domestic factors such as bureaucratic politics, party competition and public opinion, and discussed how these internal debates can affect the country’s worldview or foreign policy schools of thought.

The discussion tracks the changes in foreign policy over time in each country and addresses the implications faced by the U.S. as the five countries' worldviews change.
