On Friday, the group hears from the man overseeing a $25 billion mortgage settlement reached between 49 states and five banks.
Office of Mortgage Settlement Oversight Monitor Joseph Smith is tasked with making sure the banks overhaul their mortgage servicing operations and follow through with aid for struggling homeowners.
Smith, the former North Carolina Banking Commissioner, participated in a panel discussion titled, "It’s the Economy: Prospects for Strengthening the Housing Market.”
The discussion also featured National Urban League President Marc Morial and the former CEO of Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines.
Existing-home sales decreased by 2.6% in March from a month earlier.
