The Congressional Black Caucus is holding a series of town halls and job fairs in major cities around the U.S. this week, including one in Atlanta on Thursday. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) told CNN Thursday that thousands of job seekers attended the event.
Reps. John Lewis (D-GA), Hank Johnson (D-GA), and Gregory Meeks (D-NY) are some of the other lawmakers who attended and spoke to participants.
According to the Department of Labor, African American unemployment was 15.9% in July, higher than the national unemployment rate, which is just above 9%.
As members of Congress continue to hold town hall events in their districts this month, C-SPAN will provide coverage. Next week, we'll show you a town hall hosted by Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX). Earlier this week, C-SPAN covered Senator Tom Coburn’s (R-OK) town hall in Tulsa.
