U.S. Senate candidates Linda McMahon (R) and Rep. Chris Murphy (D) participate in a debate at the University of Connecticut Thursday, at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts.
This race is considered a toss-up and recent polls, aggregated by Real Clear Politics, show Rep. Murphy up just 3.4 percentage points. This is the second debate for the candidates.
In an article in the Hartford Courant, reporter Daniela Altmari notes that each candidate has a specific goal for the debates. For Linda McMahon, who has never held public office, the challenge is to appear comfortable talking about big domestic and foreign policy issues.
For Rep. Chris Murphy, who represents Connecticut's 5th congressional district in the western part of the state, his challenge is to continue introduce himself to a state-wide audience who may have only heard of him in negative ads released by the Republican candidate and her supporters.
