Conservative Group Hosts Anti-Healthcare Law Rally

Washington, DC
Friday, August 3, 2012

Conservative group Americans For Prosperity hosted a "hands off my healthcare" rally on Capitol Hill to encourage Congress to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Presidents of three organizations that are against the health care law spoke at the rally. They included: Tim Phillips of President of Americans for Prosperity, Penny Nance of Concerned Women for America and Jim Martin of 60 Plus.

The Affordable Care Act was upheld by the Supreme Court in June and the House voted to repeal the bill in early July. The Senate, controlled by the Democrats, has not taken up the bill.

The health care act has been in the news this week due to certain provisions of the bill, which took effect on August 1, including provisions for women's preventative services and contraception, and a rule preventing insurance companies from charging women more than men for the same policy.
