Defense Dept. Provides Update on Situation in Afghanistan

Lt. Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, International Security Assistance Force Commander, told reporters that the closing of allied supply lines in Pakistan is not affecting military operations. He spoke with reporters by video from Kabul, Afghanistan on continuing military operations in the region. 

NATO announced Monday that airstrikes will not be used against insurgent targets in civilian homes if they have other means available. U.S.- Pakistan relations have been strained since the U.S. stepped up drone strikes in Pakistan’s tribal areas targeting the Haqqani military network.
