Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia and Asia Pacific Security Affairs David Helvey briefed the press Friday on the Department of Defense's new report to Congress on "Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China 2012."
The 2012 Annual Report covers much of the same general scope as the 2011 edition, including China’s security strategy and military strategy. It also details developments in China’s military doctrine and force structure, and developments in advanced technologies that would enhance China’s military capabilities.
Mr. Helvey also stressed the agency's strategy for U.S.-China military-to-military contacts. The report also examines the nature of China’s cyber activities directed against the Department of Defense.
According to DoD, the "Department-wide guidance on Congressional reporting, the 2012 report is considerably shorter than the 2011 report, though themes and key issues remain constant."
