Economic Advisor, Experts Discuss American Competitiveness

The Center for American Progress hosted a discussion on higher education, innovation, and American competitiveness.

Top White House economic advisor Gene Sperling, who has been closely involved in ongoing negotiations over year-end tax and budget decisions, remarked on how the U.S. can navigate a path to sustainable budgets that also supports innovation, discovery and education.

Prior to that, Harvard University President Drew Faust discussed the challenge of ensuring U.S. economic competitiveness for policymakers with CAP President Neera Tanden.

She spoke about the national economic role of U.S. institutions of higher education, the emerging use of technology to expand and enrich workforce development and a range policy topics, from immigration reform to rising college costs.

President Faust was followed by a panel of industry, financial, and scientific experts detailing the government’s role in strengthening U.S. innovation, entrepreneurship and human capital development will follow. Participants included: Al Hunt Executive Editor, Bloomberg News; Glenn Hutchins , Co-Founder, Silver Lake Private Equity; Susan Molinari, Vice President of Public Policy and Government Relations, Google; and Jonathan Moreno, Center for American Progress Senior Fellow.
