Experts Discuss Egypt's Constitutional Referendum

Following the Egyptian vote on a new constitution on Saturday, the Brookings Institution hosted a discussion Monday on Egypt’s constitutional referendum and its effect on U.S.-Egyptian relations.

Panelists examined what the U.S. can do to help ensure Egypt moves toward stable democracy and how the U.S. relationship with Egypt may emerge from the current crisis.

Panelists included: Khaled Elgindy, Brookings Institution fellow, and Shadi Hamid, fellow and director of research for the Brookings Doha Center, who appeared via video conference from Doha.

Senior Fellow Tamara Cofman Wittes, director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, moderated the discussion.
