The Brookings Institution will host a discussion on the rise of al Qaeda-linked groups in Yemen, and efforts to prevent al Qaeda's influence from spreading further throughout the Arabian Peninsula.
Panelists Gregory Johnsen, Princeton University Ph.D. candidate for Near Eastern studies, and Ibrahim Sharqieh, fellow and deputy director of the Brookings Doha Center, will talk about how much ground al Qaeda has gained in Yemen, how to stop their influence from spreading and how the U.S. can manage Yemen while avoiding another ground war.
Daniel Byman, senior fellow and research director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at Brookings, will moderate the discussion.
