FAA Admin.Testifies on Modernization and Reform Act

Washington, DC
Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Federal Aviation Administrator Michael Huerta testifies at an oversight hearing on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Modernization and Reform Act.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Aviation Subcommittee examines the status of the implementation of the law and its impact on the aviation industry.

The act was signed into law in February of 2012 and focuses on reforming federal aviation programs and modernizing the U.S. aviation system by improving safety, enhancing passenger service, and strengthening accountability for the development of a Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).

Administrator Huerta also addresses the potential impact of automatic budget cuts that begin taking effect Friday. The sequester, as it’s known, could lead to air traffic controller layoffs, resulting in delays at the nation’s airports.

Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ) chairs the committee.
