FCC Nominees at Confirmation Hearing

FCC Nomination Hearing

Washington, DC
Wednesday, November 30, 2011

The Senate Commerce Committee holds a nomination hearing to consider Jessica Rosenworcel and Ajit Varadaraj Pai to be Commissioners of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

President Obama nominated Rosenworcel to replace outgoing FCC Democratic Commissioner Michael Copps, whose term ends when Congress adjourns.  Mr. Pai would replace Republican Commissioner Meredith Baker, who left her position in March.

In a recent statement, FCC chairman Julius Genachowski described the nominees as "two outstanding choices" and added that "given their talent, leadership and expertise, they would both play an invaluable role at the FCC."

The five-member Federal Communications Commission regulates broadcast media and both wireless and wired telecommunications.
