Foreign Secretary Hague Accuses Iran of Aiding Syria

London, England
Tuesday, September 18, 2012

British Foreign Secretary William Hague traveled to Iraq last week to explore options for ending the civil war in neighboring Syria.

Hague will report on his trip as well as describe political developments in the "Arab Spring" states when he appears before the British Foreign Affairs Cmte. of the House of Commons this morning.

During two press conferences with Iraqi officials, Secretary Hague accused Iran of supporting the Assad regime with arms used to "oppress" the Syrian people. Hague said that the Assad regime is "doomed."

Hague will likely be asked about the standoff between England and Ecuador over WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who sought political asylum in Ecuador's embassy while he fights extradition to Sweden over sexual assault charges.
