Former Belgian Prime Minister Discusses European Union

Washington, DC
Monday, March 4, 2013

Former Prime Minister of Belgium Guy Verhofstadt participates in a discussion on the European Union (EU) political crisis. Verhofstadt is currently a Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the ALDE Group.

Over the past 60 years, the European Union has transformed a once-divided continent into a unified, prosperous global leader. But a recent political crisis threatens the EU's economic strength and places it at a crossroads between competing visions of an integrated Europe.

David Frum, Contributing Editor of Newsweek and The Daily Beast, joins Verhofstadt to discuss the EU's future political and economic integration and the parallels with America's experiment with federalism. A question and answer session follows the discussion.
