Former Fla. Governor Testifies on Voting Rights

Washington, DC
Wednesday, December 19, 2012

Former Florida Governor Charlie Crist testified on Capitol Hill before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday on the impact of restrictions on voting. Florida had record long lines at the polls on Election Day, some voters waiting as long as 7 hours.

The Committee examined access to the voting booth and the need for protections against efforts to limit or suppress the vote.

Other witnesses included: Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz, Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett and Nina Perales, vice president of litigation for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) chaired the hearing, titled “The State of the Right to Vote after the 2012 Election."
