Freedom Riders Discuss Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s

Washington, DC
Tuesday, December 25, 2012

Nine former Freedom Riders speak about their involvement in the civil rights movement in the 1960s. The panelists were all members of the New Orleans chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality (or “CORE”), and participated in the Freedom Rides, a 1961 protest against racial segregation in public transportation.

They talk about how and why they got involved and some of the dangerous situations they faced. Tulane University hosted.

Every weekend on C-SPAN3 – 48 hours of people and events that help document the American story. And during the holidays, watch for American History TV on the weekdays, too.

Hear eyewitness accounts of the events that have shaped our nation. Come along with our cameras to museums and historic sites. Watch archival speeches from former presidents and other national leaders. We’ll take you to the classrooms of leading history professors, and to lectures and symposiums featuring prominent historians.
