George Allen (R), Tim Kaine (D) Debate

Washington, DC
Monday, September 24, 2012

The two candidates running for the U.S. Senate seat from Virginia met for their first televised debate in McLean, VA, on Thursday, Sept. 20. Former Senator and Virginia Governor George Allen (R) debated former Richmond mayor and Governor Tim Kaine (D) on the economy and other critical issues facing Northern Virginia.

The two candidates were tied in most polls as they went into the debate, with some voter surveys giving Kaine a slight lead.

The debate, hosted by The Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce and NBC4, was moderated by the host of NBC’s Meet the Press and Press Pass, David Gregory. The panel questioning the candidates included NBC4's Julie Carey and Aaron Gilchrist and the Washington Post's Ben Pershing.
