Saturday's shooting was the focus of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer's (R) address before the joint legislature. She was previousely scheduled to deliver her State of the State address, but changed her speech to talk about Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and the other victims of the tragedy. During her remarks, the governor also recognized Daniel Hernandez, the intern who tended to Rep. Giffords after she was shot.

Gov. –Elect John Kasich (R) took the oath of office as Ohio’s 55th governor in a ceremony near the State Capitol in Columbus. Kasich won the election after defeating incumbent Democratic Governor Ted Strickland.

Making history as the first female governor of Oklahoma, Gov. –Elect Mary Fallin (R) also held her inaugural ceremony at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City.
