Washington, DC
Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Gov. Jack Markell (D-DE) and a panel of policy and public opinion experts discuss a new report analyzing workforce investments by China and India and the effects on U.S. competitiveness. The Center for American Progress (CAP) will host the event.

At the event, a new CAP report was released which details the progress China and India are making to prepare their labor forces to work in high-skill and high-wage sectors of the economy. It includes recommendations for the United States to respond with more policy decisions.

Participants include Delaware Gov. Jack Markell (D), chair of the National Governors Association; Eric Hanushek, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University; Bob Carpenter from Chesapeake Beach Consulting; Marilyn Reznick, executive director of education leadership at AT&T; Matt James, president and CEO of the Center for the Next Generation; Ann O'Leary, director of the Children and Families Program at the Center for the Next Generation and senior fellow at CAP; Neera Tanden, CAP president; Donna Cooper, CAP senior fellow.

The Washington, D.C.-based think tank was founded in 2003 and according to it's website, "was originally started due to a lack of organizations that focused on economic and domestic policy and national security."
