Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan testifies about his department's FY2013 Budget request of $44.8 billion. He appears before the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The request, a 3% percent increase over FY2012 levels, includes $34.8 billion in rental assistance for 4.7 million low-income families. In addition, $2.3 billion is directed towards housing for homeless veterans and their families, with $1 billion for the Housing Trust Fund, targeted towards very-low income families.
Another $650 million addresses the housing needs of Native American Tribes while $150 million is allocated for "transformative investments" in high-poverty neighborhoods.
