Paul Altidor, Haitian Ambassador to the United States, discussed the ongoing needs of the Caribbean nation as it recovers from the 2010 earthquake that killed over 220,000 people and displaced another 1.6 million.
Ambassador Altidor delivered the keynote address at a discussion, hosted by the Woodrow Wilson Center, on continuing efforts to rebuild Haiti.
Following the ambassador, a panel of reconstruction and humanitarian aid specialists offer an overview on challenges facing recovery efforts, drawing from projects they have led to restore the country's infrastructure and to provide the Haitian people with jobs, housing and health and sanitation facilities.
Other participants included: Elizabeth Blake, Senior Vice President for Advocacy, Government Affairs and General Counsel, Habitat for Humanity International; Erick Deryce, Director, PRODEPUR-HABITAT, Pan American Development Foundation, and Former Minister of Planning and External Cooperation (MPCE), Haiti; Ambassador Thomas Adams, Special Coordinator for Haiti, U.S. Department of State; and Ambassador Albert Ramdin, Assistant Secretary General, Organization of the American States.
