A subcommittee of the House Small Business Committee examines the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on full-time employment. Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) chairs this hearing of the Health and Technology Subcommittee.
Under ACA, full-time employment is defined as 30 hours per week, even though most federal labor laws call for 40 hours. According to a recent survey, many small businesses are planning to reduce the hours of their full-time employees to avoid providing them with health insurance as required by the ACA.
The hearing will also focus on H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers Act, which would change the health law’s definition of full-time employment to the federal standard of 40 hours per week.
