The Heritage Foundation hosted a discussion on the potential threat from an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP. It can be produced by detonating a nuclear bomb at high altitude or by unusually powerful solar activity. EMPs can disrupt and destroy electrical equipment of all kinds.
