Homeland Security Secretary Discusses Cybersecurity in Oversight Hearing

Washington, DC
Wednesday, April 25, 2012

DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano told the Senate Judiciary Cmte that the Secret Service’s conduct in Colombia was inexcusable and that the IG will investigate. She also stated that President Obama’s security was never compromised.

Napolitano said that current federal immigration laws aren’t set up to allow agricultural workers to come into the country legally. She also discussed the issue of people who’ve overstayed their visas in the U.S. and the best way to track them. DHS is currently doing a review and will have figures by end of the year.

Sec. Napolitano said this week that potential cyber attacks are her number one concern and that there is a shortage of experts to assist the federal government. The Homeland Security Department responded to 106,000 cyber attacks last year.
