House Committee Holds Hearing on Broadband Spectrum

Washington, DC
Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski faced criticism from Republicans Wednesday on his plan to expand the availability of spectrum for Wi-Fi hot spots. The chairman testified before the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Communications & Technology with the other four FCC Commissioners on the FCC’s plan to reclaim public airwaves now used for broadcast television and auction them off for use in wireless broadband networks.

This is part of an effort to meet the increasing demands for wireless services.

The FCC plans to hold the auction to free up spectrum for mobile users by 2015.
