House Hearing Discusses Veterans' Education Issues

Washington, DC
Wednesday, May 16, 2012

The House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity holds a hearing on the impact of the April 27 Executive Order #13607 that aims to protect veterans from aggressive and deceptive marketing by for-profit educational institutions.

The order requires colleges to provide more transparent information about cost and financial aid options, as well as potential students' likelihood of completing the program.

The Subcommittee hears from Veterans Benefit Administration Director MG Robert M. Worley II USAF (Ret.), as well as leaders of veterans' organizations, including the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and Student Veterans America.

Representatives from the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities, American Association of State Colleges and Universities, Indiana University and the University of Illinois also testify.

Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) chairs the hearing.
