Washington, DC
Monday, March 26, 2012

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee examined the effectiveness of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security initiatives.

The hearing focused on Advanced Imaging Technology, the Screening of Passengers by Observation Techniques program, the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program and the Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response program.

This was third in a series of hearings that the two committees held on the TSA. The first, on March 16, 2011, discussed airport security and concerns about using body imaging technology in airports.

The second hearing, on July 13, 2011, focused on issues surrounding government efforts to secure airport perimeters from internal and external threats and included testimony from the former security director of Tel-Aviv International Airport.

Witnesses included: TSA Assistant Administrator for Security Operations Christopher McLaughlin; TSA Assistant Administrator for Intelligence and Analysis Stephen Sadler; U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Paul F. Zukunft; and U.S. Government Accountability Office Director Stephen M. Lord.
