Chair of the House Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee Randy Forbes (R-VA) and committee members questioned military officers about a recent agreement between the U.S. and Japan to move 8,000 Marines from Okinawa to Guam by 2014.

The U.S. has more than 35,000 military personnel stationed in Japan. Since the earthquake and tsunami Friday, additional resources have been sent to help aid in disaster response.

Seventeen naval helicoptor crews have been exposed to low levels of radiation and have been moved away from the Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Plant. The USS Ronald Reagan and the 17th Fleet ships attending to the disaster have also been moved farther from the coastline.
