As the C-SPAN networks continue to cover the Road to the White House 2012----C-SPAN Radio brings you a special program of President Lyndon Johnson’s calls in the week after the November 3, 1964 election.
You’ll hear calls about wins and losses for the Democrats on Capitol Hill---post-election requests from some members of Congress and from a labor leader---and who might be leaving the administration and possible replacements. LBJ also seeks advice on whether to punish Congressional Democrats who supported Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater.
Participants in these calls include National Security Adviser McGeorge Bundy---Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman and LBJ adviser Richard Russell---and United Auto Workers president Walter Reuther. You’ll also hear a thank you call from LBJ to the president of Anheuser-Busch beer.
And we note the audio and information in this program are from the LBJ Library and Museum, at “ lbjlibrary.org.”
