Glenn Hackbarth, head of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), testified on the commission’s Medicare payment report, released this month, at a House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health hearing.
The report calls for a number of changes, including caps on out-of-pocket expenses, changes to the deductibles for hospital and physician services, additional charges for supplemental Medigap coverage and replacing co-insurance with co-payments.
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, or MedPAC, is an independent congressional agency established by the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 to advise Congress on Medicare payment policies. The commission publishes a report twice a year in March and June.
