Military Experts Assess Afghan Security Forces

Washington, DC
Friday, June 29, 2012

President Obama's plans for withdrawing U.S. troops from Afghanistan depends on the willingness and the ability of Afghan national security forces to step in as American and international forces leave the battlefield.

The House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations conducted an assessment of these Afghan troops with three military experts who have traveled to Afghanistan to evaluate the readiness of the national forces.

Witnesses included: Max Boot, Senior Fellow for National Security Studies, Council on Foreign Relations; Retired Gen. Jack Keane, former Army Vice Chief of Staff; and Michael O'Hanlon, Director of Research and Senior Fellow, Foreign Policy Program, Brookings Institution.
