Mitt Romney Endorsed by Nancy Reagan; Holds Event at Solyndra

California
Thursday, May 31, 2012

Former First Lady Nancy Reagan endorsed Mitt Romney Thursday. Mrs. Reagan met with the former Governor and his wife Ann for cookies and lemonade at her home while Romney was campaigning in California.

In a statement, she said "Ronnie would have liked Governor Romney’s business background and his strong principles, and I have to say I do too.  I believe Mitt Romney has the experience and leadership skills that our country so desperately needs, and I look forward to seeing him elected president in November."

Earlier in the day, Mitt Romney spoke in front of the shuttered Solyndra company headquarters in California to highlight what he calls the President's "crony capitalism." He said the now bankrupt solar panel technology company received federal loans because the shareholders were Obama supporters. "This is a serious conflict of interest," he said.

The Republican National Committee also released a new web video “Obama’s Failed Investments: Warning and Red Flags” and 22-page memo, the "Solyndra File" to "highlight the Obama administration’s rush to invest in Solyndra and the consequences of ignoring repeated red flags – America losing thousands of jobs. The Obama brand of economics: taxpayers lose but campaign donors gain."

Wednesday night at campaign fundraiser, Romney highlighted his work as a businessman at Staples and attacked Obama's record on green energy. "This was real people's money," Romney said of the Staples investment. "It wasn't taxpayers' money."

In response, the Obama's campaign held a conference call with reporters Thursday highlighting what they call Romney's "Solyndra hypocrisy". They say Romney ignored his own record of using taxpayer money to pick winners and losers when he was the Governor of Massachusetts.

Friday, the Romney campaign released a new web ad, "Symbol of Failure" which incorporated video the former Governor's event outside Solyndra and the President's visit there in 2010.
