Don L. Blankenship, chairman and chief executive officer of Massey Energy Company, addressed a National Press Club luncheon to discuss the need to increase surface mining of coal in order to meet national energy requirements. On April 5, 2010, 29 miners died following an explosion at the company's Upper Big Branch Mine in Montcoal, WV. Blankenship answered questions regarding the accident and mining safety.
