Bloomberg & Murdoch Push for Revised Immigration Policy

Boston, MA
Sunday, August 19, 2012

New York city Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been a vocal supporter for revising the federal immigration policy.  This week, The New England Council hosts a forum on the economics and politics of immigration featuring Mr. Bloomberg and News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch, who serve as co-chairs of the bi-partisan Partnership for a New Economy.

Moderated by the Wall Street Journal’s Jerry Seib, the forum focuses on the economic contributions of immigrants, the proposition for reforms that will create new American jobs, and the challenges in progressing the issue in a time of increased partisan politics.

In June, Pres. Obama announced a new administration policy dealing with young people and immigration. The administration has mandated that certain young people who were brought to the United States as young children, do not present a risk to national security or public safety, and meet several key criteria will be considered for relief from removal from the country or from entering into removal proceedings.

The New England Council describes itself as an organization "dedicated to identifying and supporting federal public policies and articulating the voice of its membership regionally and nationally on important issues. The NEC is also committed to working with public and private sector leaders across the region and in Washington through educational programs and forums for information exchange."
